The Möbius strip is a very peculiar mathematical and geometrical object with amazing properties. It was named like this by the German astronomer and mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius (1790-1868) in 1858.

We can easily create a Möbius strip if we take a strip of paper and twist on of its ends through 180 degrees, and then stick the two ends together. Succinctly, the topological properties of the Möbius strip are:

a). It has only one side and one edge, whereas every plane geometrical shape (curved or not curved) has two sides. For example, if we follow the path of its surface it would wander in perpetuity returning to the same point.

b). If we cut the strip lengthwise expecting to take two identical rings, we'll get a bigger one.

c). If we continue cutting it lengthwise we will get two rings one inside the other like chain links.
