Oval Byzantine pendant with diamond in 18k gold

Byzantine handmade pendant from solid 18-Karat Yellow Gold. This Byzantine pendant has Greek archaic influences, and it is from our collection “Urania” which is the muse of astronomy. The gold pendant is microscopically decorated with yellow gold beads, wires and a white brilliant cut diamond in its center. Granulation is an ancient jewelry technique in which tiny gold spheres are used in order to create a design on a piece of jewelry. The technique consists of making tiny gold granules, applying them individually to a gold surface and fusing them in place. It is said that it was invented by ancient Sumerians 5000 years ago but it was perfected in the Byzantine era.
